Rev. Matthew L. Brown is a native of Martinsville, Virginia, where he accepted the call to the gospel ministry and was licensed to preach at the young age of 18 in November of 2005 by Rev. Thurman 0. Echols Jr. and the Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, Rev. Brown united with Rev. Charles Whitfield and the First Baptist Church East Martinsville, where he served as an associate minister, musician, and youth leader.
In April 2016, He was called to be the Pastor of the St. Paul High Street Baptist Church in Martinsville. He and his congregation are "Intentionally Living, Loving, and Learning Together."
Rev. Brown earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Liberty University and holds a Master of Divinity degree. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Ministry.
Rev. Brown is extensively involved in the denominational work of the Smith River Baptist Association where he serves as 1st Vice Moderator, the Virginia Baptist State Convention where he currently serves as 2nd Vice President, and the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc.
Additionally, Rev. Brown is committed to his community. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Grace Network Board of Directors and the Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge Board of Directors. He also serves on the Patrick & Henry Community College Foundation Board, Smart Beginnings Martinsville-Henry Advisory Board, and the local United Way Community Investment Grants Committee. He is also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Along with Pastoring and civic affairs, Rev. Brown serves Piedmont Community Services as a teacher and trainer for Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid and as a trained Suicide Intervention Specialist.
Rev. Brown has been married to his high school sweetheart, the former India Dillard, also of Martinsville, for eleven years, and they are the parents of a beautiful baby girl named Grace.
Rev. Brown understands the weight of the calling on his life but believes in always putting forth his best effort. He is striving to be all that God would have him to be so that one day he can hear Him say, "Well done thy good and faithful servant."
